Brown Phodnicha Bhath

  • 2 cups leftover brown rice
  • 2-3 green chillies slitted
  • 2 sprig curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 onion slitted
  • 1 tomato diced
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder (optional)
  • as per need Oil
  • Handful coriander leaves
  • as needed Some water for drizzling
  • as per your taste Salt


  • Take a wok,heat oil in it,add mustard seeds,let it splutter,add cumin seeds,green chillies,curry leaves, asafoetida,slitted onions,grated ginger and saute till onions become translucent.
  • Add turmeric and red chilli powder and mix Add the diced tomato and saute till tomatoes become mushy.
  • Add the leftover brown rice,salt and mix. drizzle some water over it and close with a lid for 5min.
  • Switch off the flame,garnish with coriander leaves. Brown phodnicha bhath/rice is ready to serve.


Serve the dish with sprinkling some lemon juice along with curd and enjoy.
