Ingredients

  • Fresh grated coconut 120 grams
  • Sugar or jaggery 80 grams
  • Cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoons
  • Semolina/sooji 1 tablespoons
  • Milk 1/2 cup
  • All purpose flour 1 cup
  • Asorted nuts as per taste
  • Poppy seeds 1 teaspoons
  • Ghee 2 teaspoons
  • Oil for frying 300 mililitres

Instructions

  • Take a pan add grated coconut, jiggery , cardamom and fry for 5-6 minutes
  • Now add assorted nuts and poppy seeds mix well and fry for another 2 minutes and then turn off the mixture and let it cool.
  • In a bowl, add flour, ghee and salt. Make a dough by adding water to get a smooth texture. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into equal parts. Flatten the dough ball and add a tablespoon of stuffing in the center and cover the same by brushing the edges with milk and fold over the half seal to bring a D shape.
  • Use a fork to crimp the edges and seal well.
  • Heat oil on a medium flame and add 2-3 karanji’s at a time and let it cook until they are golden brown.
  • Take them out on an absorbent paper
  • Serve warm
