Plant-Based Food Trends - 2021
It is a good year to switch to a plant-based diet as 2021 promises exciting plant-based food development. More so with the pandemic, there has been an increased awareness about the connection between food and health.
A plant-based diet primarily focuses on foods obtained from plants like fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, whole grains and legumes while ceasing the consumption of meat, poultry, eggs, dairy and honey.
Here are a few trends that you can look forward to in 2021:
1. Plant-based meat:
Meat production has adverse effects on water reservoirs and contributes to climate change. The plant-based meat is derived from proteins of pea, soy, potato or wheat.
2. Everything Chickpea:
Chickpeas are packed with fibre and protein. Initially, the trend started with chickpea pasta, but now you can try chickpea chips, roasted chickpea, chickpea pizza and even rice.
3. Vegan wine:
Egg whites or casein is used to remove tiny particles of residue in wine that cannot be removed by filtration. More wine retailers and producers give a choice to their customers by providing vegan wines.
4. Snack bars:
It’s difficult for a vegan to find a savoury snack when hunger pangs hit them. Now, no more do they have to control their hunger as savoury snack bars are available with ingredients like kale, oats and almonds.
5. Fruits as a sweetener:
Reducing sugar is a lifestyle change that everybody is adopting. Fruits like dates and prunes are being used as natural sweeteners in various dishes.
6. Vegan probiotics:
You can have a vegan probiotic version of the gut-healing probiotics. From kefir to kombucha, everything is available with vegan options.
Some things may fail, but some can become a rage depending on the consumers and their choices. This year may see a transition where many people may adopt the plant-based diet for health purposes and take into account the current world scenario. This year is easier than ever to adopt a plant-based diet with the upcoming additions in the plant-based industry.
