Ram Navami

Ram Navami is a Hindu festival celebrated with great jubilation and credence marking the auspicious moment of birth of the Lord Rama, the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This is the 9th day of the Chaitra Navratri. This festival serves as a reminder of the eternal principles of Lord Rama - the victory of good over evil (principle of righteousness). Also, this festival entails us upholding our moral values, ideals of honour, duty & sacrifice and leading a life of righteousness.

Breakfast Bliss

Singhara atta chilla

Ingredients - 

  • 1 cup singhara (water chestnut) flour
  • 1 boiled potato (mashed)
  • 1 green chilli (chopped)
  • Rock salt to taste
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • Water as needed
  • Ghee for cooking

Instructions - 

  1. Mix singhare flour, mashed potato, green chili, rock salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
  2. Add water gradually to make a smooth batter.
  3. Heat a tawa, grease it with ghee, and spread a ladle of batter.
  4. Cook until golden brown on both sides.
  5. Serve hot with curd or mint chutney.

Lunch Munch

Variche bhaat 

Ingredients - 

  • 1 cup variche bhat (little millet)
  • 1½ cups water
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp peanuts (roasted)
  • 1 green chilli (chopped)
  • Rock salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Fresh coriander leaves

Instructions - 

  1. Rinse and soak the millet for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin, green chilli, and peanuts.
  3. Add soaked millet, water, and salt. Cook covered until soft.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Aloo kadhi

Ingredients - 

  • 1 cup curd (whisked)
  • 1 tbsp singhara flour (water chestnut flour)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 medium potato (boiled & cubed)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 green chilli (chopped)
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • Rock salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Instructions - 

  1. Mix curd, water, and singhara flour in a bowl. Whisk well.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin and green chilli and sauté for a few seconds.
  3. Add the curd mixture, stirring continuously to prevent curdling.
  4. Add potatoes, rock salt, and black pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
  5. Garnish with coriander and serve with variche bhaat.

Rajgira roti

Ingredients - 

  • 1 cup rajgira (amaranth) flour
  • 1 boiled potato (mashed)
  • Rock salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Ghee for roasting

Instructions - 

  1. Mix rajgira flour, mashed potato, and rock salt to form a soft dough.
  2. Roll out rotis gently and cook on a tawa with ghee.
  3. Serve hot with kadhi

Sweet potato halwa

Ingredients - 

  • 1 cup grated sweet potato
  • 2 tbsp jaggery (or sugar)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped nuts

Instructions - 

  1. Heat ghee in a pan, add grated sweet potato, and sauté for 5 minutes.
  2. Add milk and cook until it thickens.
  3. Mix in jaggery and cardamom powder. Cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Garnish with chopped nuts and serve warm.

Dinner Delight 

Aloo tamatar

Ingredients - 

  • 2 boiled potatoes (cubed)
  • 2 tomatoes (pureed)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 green chili (chopped)
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • Rock salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Instructions - 

  1. Heat ghee, and add cumin seeds and green chilli.
  2. Add tomato puree and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add potatoes, rock salt, black pepper, and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Garnish with coriander and serve.

Farali dhokla

Ingredients - 

  • ½ cup rajgira flour
  • ½ cup sama flour
  • 1 cup curd (whisked)
  • ½ tsp rock salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ghee

Instructions - 

  1. Mix rajgira flour, sama flour, curd, rock salt, and black pepper. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Add baking soda and mix gently.
  3. Steam for 15 minutes on a greased plate.
  4. Cool, cut into pieces, and drizzle with ghee before serving.
