Celebrate International Beer Day with Beer-Battered Snacks

There is a famous Czech saying- “A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it’s better to be thoroughly sure.”

Did you know, the 5th of August is celebrated as International Beer Day all around the world!

International Beer Day is a global celebration of beer, taking place in pubs, breweries, and backyards all over the world. It’s a day for beer lovers everywhere to raise a toast to our brewers and bartenders and rejoice in the greatness of beer!

So today, we have 2 beer-battered snacks for you, let’s begin!

  • 2 large sweet onions, sliced into ½” thick rings and separated
  • 200 g all purpose flour divided
  • 100 g rice flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups beer of choice
  • 2 ice cubes
  • 1-litre vegetable oil

Method-

  1. Take a deep wok and heat oil to 180 degrees celsius.
  2. Toss onion rings with 1/2 cup all-purpose flour until each onion ring has a light dusting of flour surrounding it. Set aside.
  3. Combine remaining all-purpose flour, rice flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and salt into a mixing bowl and whisk together.
  4. Whisk in beer and ice cubes until mixture is smooth. The ice cubes will help to maintain the temperature.
  5. Lift onion rings from the batter, shaking off any excess. Carefully drop the coated rings into the oil and fry for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from oil and place onto a baking sheet lined with a cooling rack. Repeat until all onion rings have been fried.
