Our kitchen hides some secret ingredients for healthy and naturally glowing skin. So, do you want to get the multitude of benefits of homemade masks over spending thousands at salons?

Here’s how you can give your skin a gentle touch with the nourishment of these DIY homemade face masks -

  1. Rice Flour & Coconut Milk Mask

Rice flour has a great exfoliating property; it removes dead skin cells, leaving smoother skin behind; it also protects the skin from damage caused by free radicals. When combined with coconut milk which is a great agent for deep nourishment, it works wonders on your skin. Take 1 tbsp of rice flour and coconut milk; mix it, apply to your face and neck, give a gentle massage, leave for 15 minutes & rinse it off.

  1. Oatmeal & Honey Mask

Rich in anti-inflammatory properties, oatmeal is a good option for dry, itchy or irritated skin. It forms a barrier to help the skin retain moisture. It is also effective in removing dirt gently without disturbing the skin’s natural oils. Honey with anti-bacterial and healing properties, when mixed with oatmeal does the best exfoliation for your skin. Grind oatmeal to a powder and add honey. Dampen your skin, and apply generously in circular motions. Rinse off after 15 minutes, and you will love the radiance.

  1. Strawberry & Lemon Mask

Salicylic acid has been a hype these days! We all know that this component is effective in fighting dark spots and hyperpigmentation. So why invest when you have a natural alternative? I am talking about strawberries! It has vitamin C, fights acne, and blemishes & reduces signs of aging. Mash strawberries and add drops of lemon juice. With astringent properties, lemon can facilitate the process of fighting the mentioned concerns. Apply the mixture, leave for 15 minutes and rinse off with cool water to feel refreshed.

  1. Egg white & Honey Mask

The topmost benefit of egg white is that it tightens pores, effectively oil-controlling and hydrating the skin. It has a purifying effect and the potential to reduce wrinkles. You can use only egg white—apply it at night before bed and rinse it off in the morning. Or else, you can froth egg white, and mix honey with it - this will help in preventing sagginess. Apply this mixture, leave for 20 minutes and don't forget to use lukewarm water to rinse it off. Have tighter and toned skin!

  1. Oats & Cucumber Mask

Oats aid in collagen production, which helps in preventing fine lines & wrinkles and gives you firm skin. Make oats powder and mix with cucumber juice - cucumber has high water content with cooling properties that reduce puffiness. Apply this mask, specifically around your eye area. Keep it for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it off to get a clean and fresh look.

  1. Chocolate & Honey Mask

Chocolate is a powerhouse of antioxidants - it protects from UV rays, fights free radicals and reduces inflammation. Particularly dark chocolate helps to reduce premature aging, and with its anti-inflammatory properties, it also soothes irritated skin and reduces redness. It can also be used on acne-prone or sensitive skin. Take 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp yoghurt (for extra moisturization but optional). Mix well and apply on the face; wait for 20 minutes, then rinse off, followed by a moisturizer.

To get maximum results of these homemade masks, please follow the mentioned guidelines -

  • Patch test - after you prepare the mask, put a little portion on a small area of skin like elbows before applying it on the face. Every skin is different, so be cautious before you apply anything.
  • Cleaning - make sure you clean your face with a cleanser before applying a mask.
  • Even application - use a mask brush to ensure even application of the product, and avoid sensitive areas like eyes.
  • Duration - do not leave the mask on your face for too long thinking to maximize the benefit.
  • Frequency: Do not apply these regularly; excessive exfoliation might irritate your skin and cause redness.
