  • 1/2 cup, Arrowroot powder
  • 1 cup, Water
  • 1/2 cup, Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon, Lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons, Ghee
  • 2 to 3 drops, Food colour
  • 1/4 cup, Chopped nuts ( pistachios, Badam, cashew nuts
  • To mould, Square or rectangular Greased tin

  • Soak 1/2 cup of Arrowroot powder in 1 cup water. Let it settle. Once the water at the top becomes clear, discard this water carefully. It is to remove the impurities present in the powder.
  • In a non stick pan, mix soaked arrowroot powder, sugar and water.
  • Under high flame continuously stir the mixture. Avoid forming lumps.
  • Once the mixture starts to thicken, add lemon juice. Stir continuously for some time & When it becomes a thick mass, add food colour. Then add ghee 1 tbspn at a time.
  • Lastly add some chopped nuts also. Cook until the halwa leaves the sides of the pan. Transfer it into greased tin. Cool & demould and cut into desired shapes.

You can skip the lemon juice addition if you are consuming the sweet on same day. For a healthier version replace white sugar with cane jaggery While the arrowroot mixture bubbles, small lumps might form. But eventually it blends if stirred continuously.
